In class today we used another feature on Google Drive called google spreadsheets. We have been using pages and numbers to make spreadsheets for our assignments, but for this assignment we used google spreadsheets to learn another program besides numbers and pages so we have another place to go to make a spreadsheet. The difference between using google spreadsheets and numbers or pages is you can invite another person to work on the spreadsheet with you to speed the process along. It helps when two people work on it together because there are less errors and it does not take as long. Another difference is the fact that if a person is adding numbers together and coming up with the sum, they have to type out the function they want to carry out. In pages and numbers the sum function is automatically put in. They are different, but it is useful to know another site to use to make a spreadsheet in case pages and numbers are unavailable.
Google Hangouts is a really cool feature offered by Google. If a person has a gmail account then they can utilize this tool. You can video chat with up to 8 or 9 people, you can instant message people in your contacts, and if you are on video chat you can draw or add goofy stamps onto their face and it pops up onto your screen. The app is user friendly and can be very useful and fun!
A few class periods ago we created QR codes that we hung around the school. If you had an app on your smartphone or iPad you could scan the code and it reveals a message or information to the person who scanned it. The QR code I hung in the hallway was scanned four times.
Today we explored Google Doodles. Google Doodles (or the artists called Doodlers) are in charge of changing the Google logo a person sees daily when they visit Google to search for things. They also hold contests that students can participate in and they allow students to enter their own logos. I have listed my two favorite doodles below. These two doodles were just two of the many winners from the doodle contest. They are my favorite, because they are very colorful and fun. The first doodle was made by Audrey Zhang, Island Trees Memorial Middle School, NY
and the second doodle was made by Renaise Kim, Lake Washington High School, W. In class we learned about more Google elements that we could utilize in many ways. My favorite app to use was Google shopping. This was my favorite, because you could type in key words or a specific detail you are looking for and Google will pull together all things that fit the given description or it will lead you to websites that have the product you are searching for. We also used Google translate. You can type in phrases or certain words and they will translate into any language Google offers and you can also have Google read it out loud to you. Another app that was very useful was Google Alerts. Google will send emails about new to your gmail account. When you visit this app you can type in anything you want updates on like a band or a town and if they make the news Google will let you know the news story and where you can read it at. Google offers a ton of useful apps that are all user friendly and anyone can utilize them!Google Maps is full of cool features. You can visit any place in the US by a click of the mouse. You can type and address and it'll take you there. Or you can use it as a GPS system. You can type in an address and you can use your smart phone to take you to that location.
In class today we learned about Google Drive and all of the features the site had to offer. We learned how to create a new document on Google Drive and how to use the writing and drawing features Google Document possessed. The class was then taught about how we could open our document up to our classmates, so we can write on the same document at one time. That was really cool! This could come in handy if someone is writing an essay, they can have help on the document and have a peer help edit the essay while the other student watches the changes being made. There is also a feature on the computer that gives a person the ability to draw, so they can either add a drawing to their essay or if their chatting with another person they can send drawings!
Yesterday was an orange day, and my orange day is super hard. I had cheerleading practice yesterday and it went really well! The girls are starting to look great! Today is a brown day, so my schedule is pretty relaxed.
